Here are a few Shadoweyes For Good chapter 2 pages I drew a couple years ago, so I might redraw some of this/tinker with it now that I’m doing the majority of the book in Clip Studio as opposed to Photoshop (the line quality is very different).
Originally Shadoweyes was supposed to be a YA comic for younger audiences, but as things usually go with me I ended up having a ton of violence, blood, and gore in it (still no profanity or nudity though). But now with this book I’m thinking maybe I should forget the YA approach and just have the characters swear and show nudity and all that, like who gives a shit, right? That’s why I have Scout’s body in shadow on this page here and some of the subsequent laboratory scenes, maybe when I rework this stuff I’ll just say the hell with it. It would definitely be fun to write Scout saying fuck and shit at some point, too.
Another flashback when Scout and Kyisha are a bit older:
Firstly, I love these pages! I always like seeing characters as their younger selves! Secondly, I say do the nudity and cursing as needed. She’s a teenager so let her curse. Teenagers/ young adults curse. I mean you got people being brutally beaten so… I mean if I came across someone a torn up as some of the characters I’d be like “Oh shit! What the fuck happened to you?!” And I think if it’s tasteful, do the nudity. We don’t need to see underage teenage sex, but showing Scout in the tube naked isn’t a big deal. My 2 cents. Keep up the Amazing work Soph!
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I prefer the book keep nudity + profanity to a minimum.
Mostly, because it can become the only thing readers see.
I think you should cut loose with violence, but resist the urge to include much nudity. I think the inherent cuteness of the characters balances well with the ferocity of the action scenes.
That said, I will certainly enjoy it either way.
